Last Week at Home

It was another busy week! I had my last day at work on Thursday, we successfully got Matt’s truck shipped last Friday, and spent the final weekend with family and friends.

Prior to shipping Matt’s truck, we had a checklist of things to complete. We needed to gather a bunch of paperwork and Matt had to give the truck a “white glove” detailing. On that Friday, we drove about an hour and a half up to the Port of Baltimore to drop off the truck. When we got there, I went in to process the paperwork and that is where Matt realized he forgot the Vehicle Registration. Yes really- our first noob mistake of the day. Luckily, Matt had texted me a picture of the registration the day prior and I begged them to take it so we wouldn’t have to drive back home and back to the Port again and luckily, they agreed.

Next up was the vehicle inspection. This is where they took the truck’s measurements and ensured it was shipment-ready. As it was being inspected, we started talking to the inspector, who had an Italian accent. We asked where he was from and as fate would have it, he is from the same region of Italy as my family! We compared notes for a few minutes and finally I gave him my uncle’s name and asked if he knew him. He was in shock because they had actually worked together in the 90s. What are the odds? We were pretty much best friends at this point. Because Matt’s truck doesn’t have a license plate holder that will fit a Euro license plate, he ordered a holder that locks into the trailer hitch. This was when Matt realized he had left the key at home on the nightstand. I was ready to murder him at this point. When Marco, the inspector got to the trailer hitch, he asked for the key and we gave him our saddest faces and told him we forgot it. He paused for a second and said, “It’s ok guys- I make a note and say nothing more about it.” Thank God! After that it was smooth sailing and the truck was off to Germany. Hopefully, I will receive it in time to be able to pick up Matt and the kids from the airport in Frankfurt since we will need something big to fit all of the luggage.

After dropping off the car, we got to visit with Grandma Galito. I have to keep remembering she emigrated to America from the Philippines by herself with a baby and everything turned out great – we are going to be fine.

We spent the weekend hanging out with friends, having one more karaoke party, and one last bonfire.

Mother’s Day with my family. Sunday night was super hard saying ‘bye’ to all my friends I wouldn’t be able to see on Monday.
