Week 49: Fruhlingsfest!

Another week! It went by fast; the kids each had fieldtrips this week. Brooklyn went to a fossil pit with her Biology class to dig for fossils. She was able to keep everything she found including some fool’s gold. Ryan went to a trampoline park with Adventure Club from school. Both came home super excited about their adventures.

Friday, I went to Ludwigsburg Palace to see their Spring Garden Exhibition. I had seen some mind-blowing pictures online, but it took me about a week to make it up there. By the time I was there, a lot of the blooms were already gone, but I did get to check out some really pretty tulips and cherry blossoms.

This week’s big event was Fruhlingsfest or “Spring Fest.’ It’s the same thing as Oktoberfest, but held in the Spring. This year in Stuttgart, due to Covid, they were doing Fruhlingsfest ‘Light’ without any beer tents. They did have the Almhutte though, which turned out being a big beer hall that was decorated like an Alpine Hut.

Saturday, we took the kids to walk around and ride some rides. We learned that these Fests are free to enter and instead of a ticketing system for rides, you pay cash at each ride, because many of the rides are owned by different operators. Each ride was about 5-10 euros per person, so it got a little pricy after a couple of rides. They also had lots of games, including shooting games that were Ryan’s favorite, and tons of food stands including Bratwursts, Pommes (French fries), chocolate covered fruit, cheese breads, and tons of other stuff. Oh! And of course there was lots of Stuttgarter Bier.

Welcome to SpringFest!
The rides here were beyond insane. I cannot remember seeing rides as crazy, even at permanent amusement parks!
Lots of bier at the Fest
A lot of stalls were decorated as Cookoo clocks

Saturday night, we were back relatively early, so Matt and I tried out a restuarant in Bobligen that we had never been to before; Miyo Asian Soulfood, which is a now new favorite for us.

Sunday, Matt and I headed back to the Fest; some of our friends had extra tickets to the Almhutte, which were really hard to get this year. We got to have German half-chickens for dinner and more Stuttgarter Bier, while taking in the biertent atmosphere. We can’t wait til Oktoberfest, when they bring all the biertents back!

My parents will arrive next week so we have a super busy itinerary for the next month!
