Week 51: More of My Parents’ Visit

We have had another non-stop week! It started on Monday when our new Peloton was delivered. We have been on it almost every day so far!

Our new Peloton

My parents have been staying busy, walking all over town and going out to lunch in our village. The weather was rainy in the evenings, but Thursday we took a chance and headed back to Stuttgart Fruhlingsfest.

It ended up being a beautiful weather night with low crowds, so it was perfect. We even got my parents to dress up in the traditional German lederhosen and dirndl!

Brooklyn wore her dirndl too.
Matt and I worse ours as well. Ryan still refused to wear lederhosen. Maybe next fall.

The kids rode rides and played games, and Brooklyn even tried out some archery. We had plenty of bier and fest food to go along with it.

Friday, we headed back to the restaurant in our neighborhood. My parents have stopped in for a drink almost every day and made friends with the owners (of course). They invited my parents for an open fire pig and lamb roast. Some of my co-workers joined us and we had a huge dinner party. The food was great and it’s definitely something we’re going to keep going back to.

Saturday, we took a day trip to Heidelberg. We started out with an hour-long cruise on the Neckar River. It was awesome; the boat took us past the major sites by water, and was still the perfect amount of time. They served drinks and ice cream, which made it perfect by my standards.

After the boat cruise, we walked along Hauptstraße, Heidelberg’s main pedestrian street. We did some shopping and then had lunch in a German restaurant where we all had half-chickens. We walked all the way down to the castle and back to the car; my dad said we did over 10,000 steps.

After we got back to Stuttgart, we had dinner at a biergarten out in the countryside, on a horse farm, in Grafenau called Wenniger Hof.

Sunday was Mother’s Day, and my moms choice was the Black Forest so we hit the road early again. We started in Triberg at the Triberger Waterfall.

We hiked about halfway up and then returned to town for a pizza lunch, followed by Black Forest Cake.

We did some shopping at the cuckoo clock store, House of 1000 Clocks, and some other shops in town. Then, we drove to the top of the Triberger Waterfall and checked out the view from the top.

After the waterfall, we sped over to the World’s First, Oldest, Biggest Cuckoo Clock. We set them up to expect a huge, spectacular show. When they saw the lame cuckoo come out and only coo two, slow times, we almost died laughing at their faces.

My dad didn’t believe it was really that quick and couldn’t put his phone down lol!

After the cuckoo clock, we drove to the Sommerrodelbahn alpine coaster in Gutach. Matt, the kids, and I took turns riding the coaster and of course there was a biergarten at the base. We even ran into some our friends there!

Our last stop in the Black Forest was the Dorotheen Glass Hut. We didn’t make it in time to see a tour of the glass making but we did do some shopping. We’ll definitely come back another time for a tour.

We ended the day with dinner in the Sindelfingen Biergarten with some of our others friends.
