Week 67: Back to School

The kids went back to school this week! Ryan started 7th and Brooklyn started 9th grade in High School! The house has been super quiet as both have been staying after school everyday and getting home around 5pm.

First Day of School!

We have been bird sitting this week for a friend who’s out of town. Bob and Belle have been keeping me company in my office every day.

Saturday, we had a visitor arrive! Our friend Nick stopped in on his way back home from Qatar. We gave him about five minutes to rest and then we hit the road. First stop was Zurich, Switzerland. We didn’t get in until around 7pm and headed downtown for dinner. Much to our surprise, the entire downtown area was full of street parties on every other block for a festival and it was PACKED. We ended up getting döner for dinner and walked around and took pictures.

Sunday, we did a little more sightseeing in downtown Zurich. We’ve only been at Christmas so it was interesting to see it in summer. As soon as the sun came out, the Swiss were jumping into the lake and river to swim.

After we left Zurich, we drove to the town of Adliswill, where there is a lift up a mountain to look down on Lake Zurich. We were pleasantly surprised at the price: only about $5 per person. Most lifts in Europe are over $30 to take up so it gets pricy for a family of four. For the price, you get a ride up and back within one hour. What do you do at the top? There is a biergarten where you can have a bier while you admire the views.

After we got back to the car, next stop was Lichtenstein, a tiny country completely surrounded by Switzerland. We gave a driving tour, which lasted five minutes. Then, went to McDonald’s.

Liechtenstein, one of the world’s tiniest countries.

We drove back to Germany by way of Austria so we could cross another country off our list. That makes four countries in one day, for those keeping track! We made it back home in time to pick up Slinky and Daisy from a friend’s who kept them for us over the weekend.
