Another week has flown by! We are finally starting to get into a good school and work routine.
Friday, we went to the high school football game. It was a lot of fun but also very weird to drive five minutes from where we live in Germany to the High School and be completely surrounded by Americana again. Our high school team has had an almost undefeated record for a couple of years so the whole community comes out to watch them play, complete with cheerleaders, pep band, drum line, and mascot. One thing that is definitely different about these games is that our school district covers a whole continent, so the opposing team came all the way from Eastern England to play, over a 26 hour journey by bus and ferry! The game ended in a win and was a fun, cheap night out.
This weekend was opening weekend for the Stuttgarter Volksfest aka Stuttgart’s version of Oktoberfest. It’s the second biggest bierfest in the world, after Munich, being only slightly smaller but with a lot less tourists. This is the first time they’ve had it since 2019 so everyone is really excited. Brooklyn was booked three nights out of the week for families heading to the fest.
Saturday morning, my cousin flew in from Italy. We picked him up from the airport and went straight to buy him some lederhosen; he was all in on Oktoberfest! Saturday night we headed to the fest grounds. We booked a table at the Furstenburg tent with some friends.

The tent was awesome! There was a live band and just about everyone in the tent was dancing on the benches as soon as the food was taken away. Our entry tickets came with three Maß, which are the one liter of bier, and a half chicken dinner each, which is apparently the magic Bierfest combination. We saw a few friends who wandered through our tent during the evening and they all said our tent was cooler than the other ones they had been in. It was definitely a great time, that required a full day of recovery on Sunday.
