Week 141: My Parents Are Here and Innsbruck!

My parents are here! After a quiet start to the week, we picked them up from Zurich airport on Thursday morning. Their flight arrived 15 minutes early and of course, Zurich Airport is so efficient, they were waiting on the curb within 30 minutes of landing. Just like last year, they had to wait on us again! We really need to work on getting out the door earlier. It was still so great to see them and we got them home as quickly as possible for a long nap.

Once the kids were home from school and activities, we headed back to Corners for dinner. We were just there Sunday but we were all still ready for more of their mozzarella sticks and burgers.

Friday, we ran errands to get my parents set up to stay on their own next week. Then, we had dinner at our neighborhood restaurant. My parents became good friends with the owners a couple of trips ago and they really enjoyed catching up with each other (despite the language barriers 😉).

Saturday morning, we hit the road early for Innsbruck. We arrived around noon and immediately met with my Aunt and Uncle, who had driven up from their home in Italy. Innsbruck is the halfway point for both of us and the perfect city to meet.

Brothers reuniting for the first time since last summer.

We started with lunch at Stiegl-Brau Restaurant, which was across the street from the hotel. It was a classic Austrian restaurant and we had Gulasch, Schnitzel, and burgers.

My aunt brought a bottle of Prosecco to toast with during our visit.

Then, we went back to the hotel and exchanged Christmas and birthday gifts for Matt and Aunt Carla, and toasted with some Prosecco. We followed this up with a much needed nap.

For dinner Saturday night, we went to Leonardo’s, an Italian restaurant that we have eaten at on all of our previous visits for pizza and more Prosecco. We ended the night with several nightcaps in the hotel lobby.

Sunday was Matt’s birthday. We had a big family breakfast at a restaurant across the street from the hotel, the Breakfast Club. We said our goodbyes to Uncle Gary and Aunt Carla and then took a short walk around Innsbruck Old Town before Matt drove us back home.

When we got home, we took a short rest and then headed to dinner to celebrate Matt’s 39th birthday. Matt chose Tower 66 Steakhouse for his birthday dinner, which is the same restaurant we’ve gone to for my birthday the past two years.

Tower 66, a Route 66 themed steakhouse in Motor World.

We all stuffed ourselves on steak, except for Matt who got a veggie burger, which I thought was an interesting choice at a steakhouse. 😜 Then we stuffed ourselves on dessert before heading home to get ready for the week ahead.
