This week was a short week, and it flew by! We were leaving Germany on Friday for our summer home leave, so we spent the week rushing around and wrapping up things at work and home.
We passed our three year German Anniversary this week!

I love looking at our travel stats every year. In Year Three, we traveled to 18 countries, 3 of them new. We flew 30k miles and drove over 13k miles, not including daily driving. Of course, each family member did a different amount of traveling this year due to solo trips, trips with friends, and trips with clubs, but this pretty much incorporates what we did as a family and the miles I flew since no one else in the family tracks it. 😄
This week, Brooklyn and Ryan enjoyed their first week off of school. Brooklyn babysat for a few days, and Ryan stayed “busy” playing video games. He has been really busy in school and with Scouts, so we let him off the hook this week, but we’ll get after him more after we return from our trip. We got him to mow the grass once, so that was a win.
Two families that we are close with are departing Germany permanently after we depart for our leave. So, we made sure to squeeze in some time to see them as well.
Wednesday, we met them at Lucky’s in Waldenbuch. Lucky’s is a tapa restaurant, and we have been trying to go there for several months. We had planned a couple of times but had to cancel for various reasons, so we were glad to finally make it happen before they departed.
Thursday, we got in one more biergarten visit with our friends before telling the Bon Voyage and giving many tearful hugs.

Friday was our big travel day. We closed down the house, left early in the morning, and were back in Maryland Friday evening.
We’ll be home over the next few weeks, spending some much-needed time with friends and family and soaking up the break.
