Week 195: Wrestling European Championships

We are still trying to catch up on sleep around our house after a busy couple of weeks, during which at least one of us has had some kind of sickness. This week was no different, with Ryan being sick at the beginning. We allowed him to miss some school in the hopes that he could regain some strength before the wrestling championships over the weekend.

On Tuesday, Ryan had another promotion ceremony for the Civil Air Patrol. He was promoted to Senior Cadet Airman at the beginning of December. However, this is the first promotion ceremony they’ve had since then, so his pinning was a little delayed.

On Wednesday, the wrestling team left directly from school to drive to Wiesbaden, where the European Championships would be held. Thursday was the bracket qualification. Unfortunately, Ryan lost both of his bouts that day. He wrestled two really tough opponents and wasn’t at 100% from his sickness earlier in the week.

On Friday, Matt and I were both off and spent the whole day at the wrestling tournament. Sadly, Ryan also lost both matches that day, so he was eliminated from the finals. He was pretty down about it, but the talent level is really high across the European schools, and the championship involves only the best of the best. We are so proud he qualified as a freshman and a first-year wrestler!

Matt had to work the ACT at the high school the following morning so he headed back to Stuttgart Friday night. I stayed in Wiesbaden with our friends, Ray and Susan and we went downtown for dinner and drinks.

Saturday morning, I brought the kids Starbucks and breakfast back at the tournament before heading home to Stuttgart. The tournament did not end until 6, and the kids did not return home until about 10 p.m. It was a late night, and we all slept in the next day.

On Sunday, Brooklyn had to work a cookie booth for Girl Scouts at the Px and then work a shift at Pizza Hut. We spent the day catching Ryan up on schoolwork since he missed so much time last week. We ended the day back in our favorite place, on the couch!
