It’s been another cold and busy week! It’s been broken up by some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I’m not sure what causes them to be bright red and pink, but we’ve had them almost every day this week! Daylight Saving Time has ended here, so we are awake for more sunrises now!

This week is a school holiday for Baden-Württemberg, so I didn’t have any German school and got to enjoy the week off. It was so nice eating every dinner at home and relaxing with the fam!
On Tuesday, Ryan received another Civil Air Patrol promotion. They had gotten backed up over the summer so it feels like he is receiving a new one each month. This time, he promoted to Cadet Senior Master Seargent and this time it was my turn to pin his new rank!

Friday was Halloween! The high school hosts a big trick-or-treat event, and Brooklyn and Ryan were both working for their respective clubs, giving out candy: Brooklyn for the Yearbook and Ryan for Civil Air Patrol. They both wore costumes this year, though! Brooklyn was the movie character, Coraline, and Ryan was Dexter from the TV Show.

Until recently, Halloween was not a significant holiday (or a holiday at all) in Germany. However, every year we’ve lived here, it has grown bigger and bigger. Where we had only seen two or three trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood the first year, this year it was packed with locals going door-to-door. It’s really only little kids that trick or treat, and they are so cute when they sing “Süßes, sonst gibt’s Saures!” which means “Sweets or you get Sours!”
Unfortunately, we had another weekend of cold and rainy weather, so we were stuck at home for most of it, but we managed to get in lots of napping and TV time. Ryan did some volunteering with the VFW, and Brooklyn worked on college applications.
On Saturday, Brooklyn went to a Halloween bonfire and Matt and I went to a Halloween party at a friend’s house. Matt insisted we dress up and picked the Dread Pirate Roberts and Princess Buttercup characters from the Princess Bride. Matt built his costume from individual items on Amazon and mine was two sizes too big from the grocery store and you can see who looked better 🤣

Our friend Amy throws the best themed parties, and Halloween was no exception. She must have been decorating for days leading up to the party!
Some of Amy’s fantastic decorations:

I had hoped we could get out of the house on Sunday, but it actually ended up raining pretty hard all day, so we stayed home on the couch. We have a super busy week ahead, so we definitely needed the time to catch up on our rest!
