In the second week of January, we had a short week at home since everyone was traveling over the weekend. We’ve all been exhausted from running from one activity to the next, and I’ve been especially tired; I just can’t seem to catch up on sleep. Even though the week was busy, I barely took any pictures; most of the ones included in this entry were graciously shared with me by friends.
This weekend the wrestling team traveled to Lakenheath, England, for a tournament. The team left school Thursday night to begin the 18-hour journey by bus and ferry.
They arrived in London around 8 a.m. The bus dropped them off at Tower Bridge, and the team split into groups to explore the city. Brooklyn and her group took the Tube to Camden to shop at the famous market and grab lunch, while Ryan’s group went to the Tower of London (for the gift shop) and Shake Shack. {Ryan is very cultured, indeed 😜}

By 3 p.m., they regrouped at the bus and continued the journey for another two hours to Lakenheath. Once there, the team had dinner together, attended practice, and then spent the night sleeping in the gym.
On Saturday, Ryan had a great day at the wrestling match. He went 4‑1, earning second place and only losing in the final few seconds to the first-place wrestler. I’m so grateful to friends who sent us plenty of pictures, since Brooklyn and Ryan barely took or shared any themselves.

When the tournament ended, the team loaded onto the bus right after showers to begin the 18-hour journey home.
Since Matt and I both had to work on Friday, we weren’t able to travel to England this year. Instead, we took advantage of the holiday weekend and went to Garmisch with some friends. We arrived Friday night and enjoyed a delicious dinner at Fischer’s, a friend’s favorite restaurant. Matt and I both had an incredible onion roast, and it was so much fun catching up with our friends after not seeing them over the holiday.

On Saturday, Matt woke up extra early to catch the first bus to Garmisch Classic and was on the first gondola of the day. I slept in a bit and joined him later. It was a beautiful day, but incredibly crowded. We spent a lot of time waiting in lines for the lifts, so we didn’t get to ski as much as we had hoped.The highlight, though, was lunch. We enjoyed an amazing meal with some friends and one of Matt’s co-workers on a sunny terrace; it was pure heaven.

We had an après-ski at the Hausberg Lodge before heading back to the hotel for a nap. That evening, we went to Mukke-Fukke’s in downtown Garmisch, famous for its top-secret salad dressing. It did not disappoint, and we enjoyed another amazing meal with friends. We definitely ate well this weekend! We ended the evening by finishing a bottle of wine in the hotel lounge.

On Sunday, the kids were still on their way back from England, but Matt and I were up early and hit the road so we could pick them up when they returned to the school at 11 a.m. After all the time spent traveling and the early wake-up calls, we all needed a nap that afternoon before getting ready for the week ahead.
