It’s been a long time since we’ve all been home for a full week and weekend and we had a nice, slow, low-key week. With no sports on the weekend schedule either, we enjoyed a blissfully relaxing time together.
On Wednesday, the sun started peaking through the clouds for just about the first time this year! By Thursday, we had a sunny day from start to finish! It was amazing to actually need sunglasses for a change.

Baseball and softball tryouts were this week, and the weather couldn’t have been better. We’re so happy that both kids made their respective teams this year! ⚾🎉
Friday was my day off, and the sun was still shining brightly with temperatures in the 60s. After sleeping in a bit, I packed up the dogs and drove to Zavelstein in the Black Forest. Zavelstein is a small village known for its rolling meadows, which turn purple in the spring when the crocuses begin to bloom.

The past two weeks have been warmer than usual, though rainy, and I had seen online that the crocuses had started blooming early. When I arrived, parking was hard to find! The roads and parking lots were all jammed full of retirees who had also come to see the flowers; I suppose that tells me something about the demographic I should belong to 🤣.

The dogs and I made a two-mile loop through the meadows, frequently stopping while fellow walkers admired them and stopped to give them pets. The dogs were worn out by the time we were finished! We took the long way home through the Teinach Valley and enjoyed a well-earned nap once we got back.

On Friday, Brooklyn celebrated her birthday with friends as this was our first weekend free since the big day. She and friends started with a dinner at a sushi restaurant and then moved on to the local Irish Pub, and then a karaoke bar. It sounds strange even saying this, but 18 is the legal age in Germany so its completely normal to make a big night out for your birthday
On Saturday, Ryan had his JROTC Dining-In, which is their version of the annual ball. He got to wear his dress uniform, and he looked so handsome!

Sunday, we all stayed home most of the day until Brooklyn headed out for a babysitting job in the evening. The weather was beautifully sunny but still pretty chilly. Matt and I attempted to go for a bike ride, but we turned back while we were still near the house because it was just too cold for me. We spent the rest of the day lounging around the house, looking forward to another low-key week ahead!
