Week 256: Springtime in Germany!

Last week flew by, as usual! After we got back from Ireland late on Sunday night, we had to drag ourselves out of bed for work and school on Monday morning.

Ryan’s team, the Stuttgart Panthers

On Wednesday, Ryan’s baseball team had a scrimmage against a local team, the Herrenberg Wanderers. The team is only about twenty minutes south of where we live, so it was easy by our standards, and the weather was beautiful, so I was looking forward to spending some time outside. It ended up being a fairly long evening, with us arriving around four and the game not finishing until nine. They weren’t keeping score, but the Herrenberg team was definitely a bit older and bigger and seemed to be in the lead most of the time. The kids had a great time, though and it was beautiful spring evening; I think I even got a little sunburned.

On Saturday, the kids had games in Wiesbaden, about a two-hour drive away. They left at around 5 a.m., and I followed at about 7:30. Matt was working the ACT at school, so he was unable to join us this time. Luckily, Ray and Susan live in the area and were able to meet me and watch some of the games.

The softball team won both of their games, and baseball went 1–1. The weather was gorgeous, making it a great day to be outside. We finished up relatively early and were back in Stuttgart by 5 p.m. After we returned, we had some baseball parents over to our house for drinks, which was a nice way to close the day.

On Sunday, it was supposed to be beautiful, but we woke up to rain. I wasn’t going to let that stop me though, as I was planning to travel to Colmar, France, for their Spring Market, or the Fete de Printemps. I picked up a friend along the way, and we made the two-hour drive into France. Luckily, the rain held off and it stayed overcast, so we didn’t get wet.

Some of the Colmar Fete de Primtemps decorations:

The entire city was decorated so beautifully, with bunnies in every flower bed and eggs hanging from every tree. They even had live bunnies and chickens on display to round out the decor.

We found some Colmar Fete de Printemps cups to round out our market collection
A very French market lunch

There were lots of market stalls so we did some gift shopping and then perused the food for lunch, We had white wine and a tart flambee as we were wrapping up our day Jus as we headed into our two-hour drive home, the rain started. The perfect way to close out a nice, home weekend.
